ROOTS OF LOVING US

“Roots of Loving Us” is a multi-year community engagement, collaborative research project and performance “Roots of Loving Us” with holly johnston of Responsive Body and Ana Maria Alvarez of CONTRA-TIEMPO. This project examines the impacts and outcomes of adoption, foster families, and chosen families on 21st century family structures. The project will utilize practiced-based research to engage multidisciplinary integration of dance movement, body based healing, art making and social impact.

¡azúcar!

Join us as we explore ancestral wisdoms about a plant that once aided in our healing, used as a way to sweeten medicinal concoctions, now extracted, refined and used as weaponized poison.

¡azúcar! is a multi-year project with various iterations including a movement film that premiered at the Getty, several writings, a live exhibition of photography, performances, community engagements and choreographic labs. ¡azúcar! originally premiered March 2023 at NC State Live in Raleigh, NC and made its Los Angeles debut at the Ford this August 2023. The work will continue to deepen through a Pillow Lab at Jacob's Pillow in February 2024 and will be shared at UC San Diego's Epstein Amphitheater on April 11, 2024. The piece is ready to be toured and can be performed as a site specific and immersive experience or on a proscenium stage. Both versions invite participation from community members.

JoyUS JustUS

“joyUS justUS” is an evening length participatory Activist Dance Theater experience that takes on joy as the ultimate expression of resistance. This piece embodies stories of hope, faith, family, strength, and of course, joy collected from communities of color in South Los Angeles. Through this evening long performance, we are creating a space of joy and healing, allowing the collective “us” to feel more connected, loved, powerful, and alive.
