Community Workshops + Performance at Sam Yellen Park

CONTRA-TIEMPO brings joyUS justUS to Palmdale for a week of movement, story, and collective celebration - culminating in a powerful public performance at the newly completed Sam Yellen Park.

Grounded in our signature dance theater approach, this engagement invites the community to move together, remember together, and activate public space with joy, rhythm, and meaning.

🌿 Ancestral Technology Workshops

Tuesday, March 24 | 6:00–7:30 PM
Thursday, March 26 | 6:00–7:30 PM

Our Ancestral Technology workshops are rooted in the wisdom of Afro-Latine and diasporic movement traditions - social dance forms that have long been tools for survival, resistance, celebration, and connection.

Participants will explore:

  • Rhythm as communication

  • The body as archive

  • Joy as a collective practice

  • Movement as a way to build community power

No prior dance experience required - just come ready to move and connect.

🌞 Performance + Sabor Session

Saturday, March 28 | 4:00–6:00 PM
Location: Gathering Plaza at Sam Yellen Park

Celebrate the completion of Sam Yellen Park with a dynamic performance engagement event!

CONTRA-TIEMPO will activate the Gathering Plaza with an excerpt of joyUS justUS - a work that transforms joy into an act of resistance and collective liberation. Through high-energy choreography, live music, and community participation, the performance invites audiences to witness stories of resilience and step into the rhythm with us.

Following the excerpt, stay for a Sabor Session - our signature community dance party where the plaza becomes a shared dance floor. This is your invitation to move, celebrate, and claim public space together.

Why This Matters

Public space belongs to the people.
Dance is a technology of connection.
Joy is a powerful, collective force.

Join us in Palmdale as we gather, move, and celebrate what becomes possible when art activates community space.
