Embodied Organizer

Xochitl Loco is a multi-disciplinary choreographer, world builder, organizer, and educator who uses collaboration through performance as a catalyst for restorative justice and community building. Raised across Whittier, East LA, and Long Beach, Xochitl is a queer Chicanx artist whose choreographic research is rooted in politics of identity and culture, exploring queerness, sexual assault, intergenerational trauma, healing the inner child, immigration, working class inequities, and reproductive rights. They have led dance enrichment workshops in system-impacted communities across Long Beach Unified and Newport-Mesa Unified school districts, teaching Hip-hop, Bomba, West African dance, and Folklorico.

Xochitl holds a BA in Film and Creative Writing from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Choreographic Inquiry from UCLA's Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance, where they were a Graduate Opportunity Fellowship Program scholar. At UCLA, they choreographed and produced their first full-length work, “los portales,” with an intergenerational cast of youth from Dancer 4 Life Studio and UCLA students. Since earning their MFA, Xochitl has organized a Social Impact Artist Residency with Camino al Arte in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, culminating in their second full-length work, “las artes sanartes.”

Xochitl has performed at UCLA's Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater, The Bing Theater at USC, and The Ford for “Direct Address,” choreographed by Ana Maria Alvarez in collaboration with Cornerstone Theater Company. They came to CONTRA-TIEMPO after researching the company for their MFA thesis and joining the FUTURO Artivist Leadership Intensive as a two-time participant, building the relationships that sparked their path to becoming an Embodied Organizer.

Xochitl is deeply committed to restorative justice, affordable housing, a living wage for all, and honoring nature - all while holding onto a sense of whimsy as a neurodivergent, two spirit body moving through the world. In life and in dance, Xochitl moves in ways that make space for breath, release, and joy, with a mission to provide healing through culturally affirming movement and artistic collaboration.
